Design

The Artemide Islet wall lamp lives up to its name in a simple but refined way. Many small holes characterise the front of the rectangular diffuser and give it its special look, especially when switched on, as the Islet looks like a distant, atmospherically illuminated island. Inside the diffuser, the LED module is surrounded by opal glass. This also protects the Artemide Islet wall lamp at the top and bottom and thus prevents a direct view into the lamp. The idea for the Islet came to designer Mikko Laakkonen in a subway in New York City, when he watched the ventilation boxes while waiting. Mikko Laakkonen achieved greater prominence with his design for the two-seater "Aura", for which he received the Red Dot Award.

The Islet was designed by Mikko Laakkonen for Artemide in 2015.

Islet – distinct lighting effect

The Artemide Islet wall lamp emits its absolutely glare-free light upwards and downwards. This is achieved, on the one hand, by the reflection on the outer diffuser and, on the other hand, by the opal glass on the top and bottom, which gives the light a mild note. The Islet gets its fascinating lighting effect from the circular recesses in the housing, which allow some light to escape – thus, this wall light not only contributes to the downward and upward emission of the room light, but also to the overall atmosphere. Depending on the viewing angle, the Artemide Islet appears a little different, but always almost alive due to the sparkling "light holes". On request, the Islet, which is operated with an energy-efficient LED module, can be equipped with an external dimmer.
