The Artemide Tolomeo Terra series is characterized by best practice functionality, which is embedded in an equally elegant and sober desig0. A Tolomeo floor lamp, whether in the large or small version, finds usage almost in every room, since it has not to be installed firmly. Thanks to its discreet appearance, it harmoniously integrates into the environment and supplies it with flexibly adjustable, targeted light and tasteful design that is aimed at practicality and usability. So a Tolomeo Terra always stands for classy illumination when working or reading – renowned prizes like, for example, Compasso d'Oro-ADI, give clear evidence of this.

The history of origins of Artemide Tolomeo floor lamps dates as far back as 1987, when the Italian company Artemide launched the Tolomeo family and has developed it further ever since. So the So the quite unobtrusive design, for example of the Tolomeo Basculante Terra, has been complemented by an appealing detail – in the shape of an elegant shade made of satin or parchment. Generally, Artemide puts its focus on a sober, practical look. A Tolomeo Terra avoids design just for the eye, but is always aimed at the optimum of usability. So the materials of Tolomeo floor lamps are mostly available in classic colours like white or black. Instead, they are optimized regarding durability and lighting effect, underlining the visual understatement of the lamps with a sure taste for style. Moreover, all members of the Artemide Tolomeo Terra family take care for anti-glare illumination that is also characterized by a pleasant colour spectrum.

The floor lamps of this collection are all aesthetic variations of the original model introduced in 1987 – the Artemide Tolomeo Terra. This filigree lighting object, conceived by Michele De Lucchi, leads the way for all its successors: a turnable luminaire arm, stabilized by an intelligent spring balancing system, supples brightness exactly where it is needed. The arm of the Tolomeo floor lamp consists of polished aluminium and forms a fancy contrast to the satined light head which ensures great flexibility as well. It can be swivelled in any direction and emits smooth room lighting towards the ceiling through a small opening on the upper end. So abrupt transitions between light and dark can be avoided.

This prime example of ideal functionality and plain, nice design gets a germane continuation by a variation like, for example, the Artemide Tolomeo Terra doppio.
