Magnificent display of elegance and modern innovation: Catellani & Smith Disco

The Disco lights belong to the bestsellers in the program of Catellani & Smith. The ceiling lights from the Disco D´oro series are handmade masterpieces of Catellani & Smith. The Disco lights belong to the bestsellers in the collection of the Italian manufacturer of luminaires.

Finely designed and complemented with a luxury finish, the Catellani & Smith Disco D’oro acts not just as an attractive eye catcher, but also proves an efficient light source. Enzo Catellani created the Disco D´oro ceiling light as a design object that derives its attractiveness from its distinguished appearance. The light of this “golden disc” is given off indirectly over a circular reflector plate that features a prickle in the middle. The resulting antiglare illumination is bright and warm at the same time, creating a cosy and comfortable atmosphere. The Catellani & Smith Disco D´oro ceiling light is composed of iron and brass, the reflector plate is deliverable in gold or silver. The head of the lamp consists of two metal rods and the bulb holder, being equipped with a glare cover. Whereas the version coated with gold foil creates a warm light colour, the silver model brings about a decently cool ambience.

Being a skilful combination of excellent lighting and visual refinement, Disco D´oro is perfectly suitable for living and dining rooms as well as bedrooms. But the luminaire also harmonizes with other spaces and works well with different styles. Due to its discreetly stylish look it is used in a workroom, too. Or in a hallway, where it creates an inviting aura thanks to its atmospheric light emission. Besides, the Disco D´oro represents good value in terms of price and quality. The ceiling light is equipped with a R7s socket and is delivered including a 160W eco halogen lamp. These enjoy a great reputation for their continuous colour spectrum, high light yield and reduced consumption of energy, resulting in considerably lower electricity costs. The diameter of the reflector plate measures 600 Millimeter, the height is 240 Millimeter.

One more mechanical masterstroke: Catellani & Smith Disco. Here again, brass and iron have been combined in a wonderful way to form a charming contrast to a disc that in this case is kept in vintage white. The Disco ceiling light is also delivered including an economic 160W eco halogen lamp housed in the holder, casting light up to the reflector plate and so providing warm, indirect illumination. The visual and photometric advantages of the Catellani & Smith Disco ceiling light seem to be convincing as a customer feedback shows: Very convenient light, which day-like brightens the room. Negative: found nothing.”

With the Disco D´oro, Catellani has created an impressive lighting object that appeals the viewer by slightly futuristic shaping and elegantly minimalist expressiveness. The designer himself described it as a timeless object. By reducing the structure the ceiling lamp looks simple and unobtrusive. Like all the lights from Catellani & Smith it was manufactured with the highest degree of care and precision. The Disco comes available in four different finish options including: white/white, white/black, white/satin nickel and white/nickel.

Additional information about the designer: In 1985, Italian blacksmith and designer Enzo Catellani began with the production extraordinary lamps, gaining great international popularity with the golden discs. Ever since British architect Logan Smith joined him in 1989, Catellani & Smith has been experimenting with many materials and creating new, exceptional lighting designs time and again.
