Design

Bernard Schottlander was a great admirer of the works by the British artist Alexander Calder. To pay tribute to his delicate sculptures that are characterised by weightless grace, he designed the Mantis BS1. This artistic floor lamp by the French light manufacturer DCWéditions not only enchants its viewer with its practical flexibility but particularly also with the fine lines and curves of its shape. The softly curved lampshade is tapered to form a rounded tip. This is connected to the fine frame made of a steel tube that is slightly bent forward at the top. A counterbalance mechanism, which rests on three feet, holds the frame in place.

The French light manufacturer DCWéditions has been reissuing the DCWéditions Mantis BS1 light classic for several years now. Their products impress with high-quality workmanship as well as the attention to detail.

Mantis BS1 – exemplary flexibility

The DCWéditions Mantis BS1 is an extraordinarily flexible floor lamp. Thanks to the sophisticated counterbalance mechanism, it can be bent forward in four steps of 20° each. Furthermore, the frame can be rotated by 360° and the curved lamp shade can also be adjusted as needed. In this way, the Mantis BS1 perfectly adapts to your personal needs. The designer light has an E14 socket suited for a maximum of 11 watts. For this reason, energy-saving lamps as well as LED retrofits can be used. Both illuminants are characterised by high energy-efficiency as well as high luminous efficacy. Thereby the DCWéditions Mantis BS1 saves energy, which also benefits your wallet.

Mantis BS1 floor lamps: not only for the living room

The DCWéditions Mantis BS1 primarily serves as a well-shaped reading light that is placed next to an armchair or a sofa. Here, it supplies the pages of an exciting book or the newspaper with needs-oriented zone lighting and thereby increases the reading pleasure. Additionally, this floor lamps by DCWéditions takes over the role of an elegant eye-catcher that adds a certain something to a reading corner. When used as a replacement for a desk lamp, the Mantis BS1 provides bright light in your office at home and always illuminates the areas that require illumination, thereby avoiding strong contrasts between light and dark which negatively affect the eyes.
