Design

With the Flos Chasen S2 Patricia Urquiola created a truly innovative pendant light. The lampshade can be stretched or squeezed as desired. This creates a fabulous optical effect, as the screen consists of numerous flexible lamellas made of steel foil. This way, the Chasen S2 is reminiscent of a Japanese tea whisk, a Chasen, which is used in Japanese tea ceremonies. Thus, the pendant lamp by the Italian light manufacturer Flos exudes an almost spiritual flair while integrating itself into various different interiors as an elegant eye-catcher.

Designer

The design of the Chasen S2 was penned by Patricia Urquiola who created the pendant light in 2007 for the manufacturer Flos.

Chasen S2: adjustable light

The variable shape of the Flos Chasen S2 directly affects the lighting effect. When stretched completely, the lampshade lets only a little amount of light escape to the sides while the major portion is emitted downwards. It is different, however, when the shade of the Chasen S2 is squeezed. Then the pendant light by Flos shines downwards as well as to the sides through a matt borosilicate cylinder. Thus, the pendant luminaire creates either focused zone lighting or a mixture of zoned and atmospheric light. As for the illuminant, we recommend a reflector lamp with E27 base.
