Design

The Flos IC Lights C/W1 revitalises the tradition of clear and functional design of the Bauhaus era. A characteristic feature is that the round sphere of the opal glass diffuser contrasts with the right angle below which it seems to be floating. There is only one almost invisible point that connects both elements. To round off this perfect impression, a metallic dome connects the corpus with the wall. No unnecessary embellishments disturb the uniform and perfect appearance. The metal elements of the wall light by Flos are manufactured from high-quality steel that is brass-plated or chromium-plated, which is a further little reference to the Bauhaus design. At the same time, an appealing contrast is created between the matt surface of the glass sphere and the polished metal of the holding fixture. When designing this wall light the creator of the IC Lights C/W1 Michael Anastassiades was inspired by a street juggler who let the glass spheres dance over his palms and finger tips.

IC Lights C/W1 wall lights: charming ambient lighting

Since the light bulb on the inside of the Flos IC Lights C/W1 is completely covered by the satinised and hand-blown glass sphere the wall light emits softly diffused light in all directions. In this regard the wall lamp is surprisingly flexible: an installation on the ceiling is an equally good solution as the “upside down installation” on the wall. In each position a new impression of the light is created. However, all installation possibilities have in common that the glass sphere is floating on the right-angled metal rod. For an excellent colour brilliance of the light emitted it is recommended to use a halogen lamp. In comparison to a conventional incandescent light bulb it consumes less energy while still ensuring an excellent light quality with a colour rendering index of Ra=100.
