The Taraxacum, a pendant light from the Cocoon collection, is the luminaire that helped to establish Flos once and for all as a genuine innovator in lighting manufacture. Designed in 1960 by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, the Taraxacum today retains all of its original appeal. The synthetic resin fibre cover, called Cocoon, is sprayed directly onto the powder-coated steel fibre frame of the lampshade, thus creating the structural shape. The final spray-on coating protects the Cocoon and guarantees its stability. The resulting shape takes an exquisitely organic appearance, reminiscent of a giant seed pod spun into a cocoon. Taraxacum emits diffused light and is ideal for rooms requiring relaxed, ambient lighting.
