Design

The extraordinary shade of the Le Soleil from Foscarini is reminiscent of the New York Guggenheim Museum. Similarly to the museum, this pendant light is shaped like a rotunda. Here, the asymmetrically layered plastic stripes of the pendant light achieve a fascinating mixture of lightness and dynamics. The Foscarini Le Soleil is made of polycarbonate, a transparent and highly durable plastic material, which ensures a uniform light distribution, and it is available in three colours: white, red and aquamarine. The artistic lighting object was created by the Spanish designer Vicente Garcia Jimenez in 2009.

The design of the Le Soleil Sospensione was penned by Vicente García Jiménez who created the Dining table lamps in 2009 for the manufacturer Foscarini.

A diffuser on the bottom shade opening makes sure that the Le Soleil softly diffuses its light downwards.

The shade is made of solid polycarbonate that softly diffuses the light emitted.

Le Soleil Sospensione – direct light emitted downwards

The deliberately irregular structure of the polycarbonate stripes is responsible for the special lighting effect of the Foscarini Le Soleil. Due to the material the inner surface of the stripes serves as a reflecting surface directed upwards. Between the stripes, the light supplied by the three lamps emerges and thereby illuminates the entire body of this pendant light from Foscarini. At the same time, a further illuminant in the bottom part emits the light directly downwards in a target-oriented manner. Thanks to the sloped arrangement of these stripes, some light additionally hits the outer areas of the shade which means that an indirect illumination and a playful, architectural effect are created. Moreover, the irregularities in the stripe arrangement result in different effects, depending on the perspective. This way, the Foscarini Le Soleil produces a subdued light that is characterised by an interplay of light and shadow. A further lighting effect may be achieved by the colour selected for this pendant light.

Pendant lights for the dining room and the living room

The Foscarini Le Soleil pendant light cuts a particularly fine figure when it is installed above the dining table in the kitchen or in the dining room. Here, it not only provides for a pleasant accentuation of the food and drinks but also ensures a pleasant basic illumination. This combination of zone lighting and ambient lighting is also appreciated in a living room where the Le Soleil may float above the coffee table.
