Fritz Hansen – visionary designs of the extra class
The history of Fritz Hansen goes back to 1872: at that time, the carpenter Fritz Hansen received a trading license in Copenhagen to start his own furniture manufacturing company 13 years later. This has developed into an international group based in the small Danish town of Allerød, whose product range includes lamps as well as furniture and home accessories. One reason for the Danish manufacturer's success is its collaboration with many world-famous designers, including Arne Jacobsen, who designed the legendary "Egg Chair".
Fritz Hansen has furnished countless public buildings in Copenhagen, such as the University Library or the City Hall. Since 2015, the Danish lighting company Lightyears has belonged to Fritz Hansen, which significantly increased the range of luminaires. The acquisition of the Kaiser Idell brand also contributed to this. All products from Fritz Hansen inspire with high-quality materials and timeless designs, which are characterized by well thought-out details.
Kaiser Idell – exemplary Bauhaus design
Kaiser Idell was penned by Christian Dell, a silversmith and teacher of industrial design at the Weimar Bauhaus. Accordingly, the lamp is inspired by the sober, businesslike style. It is characterized by its distinctive curved lampshade made of sheet steel, which is available in different colors, with a high-gloss or matte finish, depending on the model.
The flagship of the floor and table lamps is the patented swivel joint, which allows versatile adjustment options. Also part of the product family are pendant lamps and an extendable wall lamp – the well-known Kaiser Idell scissor lamp. It provides optimal reading light. Kaiser Idell achieved great fame through the television series "Der Kommissar" and is therefore also known as the "Kommissarleuchte".
The family of lamps is named after the Renaissance painter of the same name, whose paintings are known for the masterful staging of light and shadow effects. The design of the lamp by Cecilie Manz is characterized by the bell-shaped shade made of metal or opal glass. As a result, the wall and pendant luminaires provide downward zone light. For soft indirect lighting accents provides the small opening at the top of the shade, through which part of the light escapes.
The fabric-covered cable of the pendant luminaire forms a charming contrast to the robust-looking shade and the filigree three-link metal suspension. Due to the long supply cable pendant lamps are wonderful for rooms with high ceilings. The model for the wall, in turn, delights with flexibly alignable zone and reading light.
