When many artists set up their studios in empty factory buildings in the mid-20th century, no one suspected that this would mark the birth of an interior design trend that is in vogue today. But when the buildings were later converted into studio apartments or lofts, the sober style gradually found its way into the world of living.
Characteristic for the style of living are robust, rough materials. Lamps in the industrial look are made of various metals, from aluminum and steel to copper and brass. Wood and concrete are also often used. In terms of color, clear, neutral tones predominate, combined with strong color accents. Black, gray, brown and white are joined, for example, by a bright red or a bright yellow.
