Decorative baroque style table lamp with up and down light
"I believe that plastic is a material that still has a lot to offer."Ferruccio Laviana, designer of Kartell Bourgie
Kartell Bourgie – unique lighting effect and exceptional, sustainable design
Bourgie combines baroque design with innovative material. The table lamp is made of polycarbonate 2.0 – a sustainable plastic that is largely obtained from cellulose and paper scraps. Bourgie's hallmarks are its distinctive baroque-style base and pleated-textured lampshade. Turn on the table lamp, enjoy enchanting light reflections.
The double-sided light output makes the Bourgie from Kartell versatile. On the side table next to the couch or the armchair, it provides glare-free reading light. The upward light provides a soft indirect lighting. Also on the sideboard or a low shelf, the lamp advances to an impressive furnishing object and a beautiful island of light. If you want a moody atmosphere in the evening, simply dim the light of the Bourgie table lamp.
Thanks to a special mounting system, the lamp can be adjusted in height. 68, 73 or 78 cm: the choice is yours. This also applies to the color of the Bourgie: the table lamp by Ferruccio Laviani is available in many different color variations. It is part of the permanent collection of the Indianapolis Museum of Art in the USA.
For your Kartell Bourgie lamp we recommend candle-shaped bulbs. They provide a particularly homogeneous light distribution. Depending on the coating of the bulb, the light pattern is different.

Do you like effective plays of light and shadow on the screen? Then choose clear illuminants and enjoy fascinating light reflections.
Polycarbonate 2.0 – innovative material for more sustainability
Kartell attaches great importance to a responsible approach to the environment. Therefore, the company relies on sustainable materials obtained from renewable raw materials. For this purpose, the Italian manufacturer has developed a polycarbonate 2.0. This is also what the Bourgie lamp is made of.
The material is mainly obtained from cellulose and paper scraps. According to Kartell, this reduces carbon dioxide emissions by up to 60 percent compared to conventional fossil-based polycarbonate production. CO² certificates prove the lower CO² emissions.
The Bourgie material is just as high-quality, robust and durable as the original polycarbonate – only much more sustainable.
Ferruccio Laviani – a designer with a major share in Kartell's success
Ferruccio Laviani is an internationally renowned Italian designer and architect. He was born in 1960 in Cremona, Italy, and studied architecture and design at Milan Polytechnic. His teachers included Achille Castiglioni and Marco Zanuso.
While still a student, Laviani worked for Michele De Lucchi and later became his partner. In 1991, the Italian set up his own design studio in Milan and became art director at Kartell. The designer has already realized several successful designs for the manufacturer. In fact, Laviani calls Kartell his second residence, that's how much time he spends there. In the past decades, he has significantly influenced the development of Kartell.
In addition to the Bourgie, Battery also comes from him. The lamp is characterized by its faceted shade and the fascinating light reflections. Also from his pen is Geen-A with its minimalist design and downward light. Another successful model by Laviani is FL/Y. The pendant lamp is available with transparent as well as opaque shade in many colors.
