DesignThe Enigma, 425 presented by the Danish light manufacturer Louis Poulsen, is enigmatic in the truest sense. Below the cone-shaped lamp head, there are four circular elements, each smaller than the one above, which float seemingly weightlessly in the air by means of filigree aluminium wires. This turns the pendant light into a tasteful eye-catcher that impresses with an unobtrusive and elegant design language. In 2003, the Japanese designer Shoichi Uchiyama presented his new creation to the public: the Louis Poulsen Enigma 425. The hanging lamp was very well received by the public, including many experts, and was honoured with the iF Design Award the very same year. Uchiyama is known for his interest in indirect and glare-free light. This in turn gives him the opportunity to focus on the beauty and simplicity of his objects. The Enigma 425 is a prime example of the designer’s work philosophy.
