Poul Henningsen – multi-talented lighting expert
Poul Henningsen was a respected designer, architect and author. Born in 1894, the Dane studied architecture for six years, though he did not graduate. Henningsen was initially involved in functionalist architecture, but early on he focused on lighting. His lighting designs achieved worldwide fame.
The Dane did pioneering work in lighting technology and dealt in depth with light structures, reflections and shadows. His contributions to the art of proper lighting made him as famous as his outstanding lighting designs.
For decades – from 1925 until his death in 1967 – Poul Henningsen worked with Louis Poulsen. Even today, the company produces the artful design lamps of the Dane. In addition to the PH 5, the PH Artichoke also comes from Henningsen. The pendant lamp, also called cone, is also characterized by its refined, even more complex design.
