Design

With the Luceplan Counterbalance Floor, designer talent Daniel Rybakken presents the latest offspring of the innovative award-winning Counterbalance family. The Norwegian designer was honoured already twice with the Compasso d’Oro for his creative designs for the Italian light manufacturer Luceplan. His works are characterised by Scandinavian rationality and the urge to experiment. This principles can also be found in the sophisticated design of the Counterbalance Floor: a hat-shaped luminaire head is held in position by its own weight on a narrow perpendicular pole of the floor lamp and can be flexibly adjusted. However, the floor lamp is not only convincing in its functionality, but also in its tastefully reduced design language.

The design of the Counterbalance Floor was penned by Daniel Rybakken who created this luminaire in 2015 for the manufacturer Luceplan.

Counterbalance Floor floor lamps: intelligent counterbalance system

The floor lamp by Luceplan features a sophisticated counterbalance system by means of which the small lamp head keeps its position on the slender pole using its own weight. The advantage is that no additional mechanisms are required for easily adjusting the lamp head’s height. For even more ease of use, the head can be tilted and rotated as desired in order to direct the light where needed. The integrated LEDs of the floor lamp produce a luminous flux of 800 lumens while consuming only 12 watts. Thus, the Counterbalance Floor is brighter than a conventional 60 W incandescent lamp.

However, the standard lamp by the Italian luminaire manufacturer Luceplan is not only convincing from a functional point of view. Its rational design has its own discreet elegance, which makes the luminaire a graceful eye-catcher.
