Martinelli Luce – family company with minimalist and organic lighting designs
Martinelli Luce looks back on decades of experience in the lighting segment. The traditional Italian company was founded in 1950 by Elio Martinelli in Lucca, near Florence. At that time, many households lacked common everyday objects. Thus, many designers saw their task in developing functional and at the same time aesthetic objects for everyday use. Martinelli succeeded in this with its lamps.
To this day, Martinelli Luce lamps are characterized by their simple design language. The Italian manufacturer does without superfluous flourishes or ornamentation. Instead, the designs are focused on the essentials. Nature and geometry often serve as sources of inspiration. In addition to minimalist light objects, the range includes lighting classics in organic designs as well as models from the Pop Art era.
The company collaborated early on with many renowned designers, including Gae Aulenti and Marc Sadler. In addition, Elio Martinelli himself designed many lamps for his company as did his daughter Emiliana. She has managed the company since the death of her father in 2004, with the support of her son Marco in the meantime.
Pipistrello – cult lamp from the 60s
With Pipistrello, the Italian designer and architect Gae Aulenti has designed in 1965 a table lamp that enchants with its charm to this day. The hallmark of the Pipistrello lamp is its organic design: the shade is reminiscent of the spread wings of a bat (it. pipistrello). It is made of opal white methacrylate – a material that was still new in the 1960s – and shields the light source upwards. This gives you glare-free zone light downwards, making Pipistrello ideal as a reading lamp next to the armchair or bed.
Pipistrello is available with lampholder as well as with dimmable LEDs and is available in different sizes and colors. With the exception of the battery lamp and the mini Pipistrello, the lamps are adjustable in height. The Pipistrello table lamp LED is also optionally available as a smart version and with adjustable light color. Thanks to the Casambi module, it can be conveniently controlled with a smartphone or tablet.
Cobra – organic design, alignable zone light
Cobra is an exemplary design by company founder Elio Martinelli, who was inspired by nature with preference. Thus, the table lamp with its soft, supple silhouette reminiscent of an erect snake and thus more than lives up to its name.
The lamp by Martinelli Luce is cast in synthetic resin, which was a real novelty at the time of its design in 1968. Although its upper and lower bodies form a single unit, they are connected by a joint that is barely visible from the outside. This allows you to rotate it 360°, allowing for individual zone lighting.
