Nature-like shapes – the Moooi Heracleum II pendant light is named after Heracleum – the Latin name for hogweed – a plant of the Umbelliferae family. The shape of these extraordinary pendant lights is inspired by their nature's equivalent. Just as in the case of the eponymous plant, the struts of the Heracleum II pendant lamp ramify into a complex structure of filigree branches. At the end of each “branch” an LED lamp is located that is enclosed by a “leaf” made from polycarbonate. Thanks to this organic appearance, the Moooi Heracleum II pendant light turns out to be the perfect fusion of a light source and an art object – this guarantees that all your guests will have their eyes on this special piece.

The individual “leaves” of the Moooi Heracleum II pendant light can be adjusted continuously. This results in a play of light in all directions which creates fascinating shadows on objects and surfaces in the surrounding area. This highlight by Moooi can be installed, for instance, above a dining table which is then suffused with atmospheric mood lighting. The spectacular look of the Heracleum II pendant light is also ideally suited for use in commercial areas. The entrance areas of hotels or cultural sites, for instance, always cut a great figure in the multifarious play of light of these exceptional pendant lights.

Design by Moooi – luminaires from the Dutch creative workshop

Just like all Moooi objects, the Heracleum II pendant light also stands out due to its artful appearance. The timeless design of these extravagant pendant lights is always up to date irrespective of the fashions and trends. The Moooi Heracleum II pedant light was designed by the Dutch designer Bertjan Pot. He had some constructional difficulties with including the connecting cables into the delicate branches. The respective solution was supplied by Moooi mastermind and company founder Marcel Wanders. He was at that time working of the development of a new wire technology which was based on multiple layers of conductive paint, the so-called “electric sandwich”. This wire technology made the cable connections for the Moooi Heracleum II pendant light superfluous.

The Moooi Heracleum II pendant light operates using permanently installed LEDs. The LEDs are located at the end of each “branch”; a total of 63 LEDs are used for this pendant light. These LEDs only require a power input of 14 watts and produce a light intensity of almost 700 lumens. Moreover, the Heracleum II pendant light convinces with a warm-white light colour and a good colour rendering. Exemplary: since there might be problems with LED lights in combination with some dimmer systems leading to flickering or humming, Moooi offers precise recommendations regarding the dimmer types which are compatible with the Heracleum II pendant light.
