If you want to have the full functionality of the Philips Hue system, you need the Hue Bridge. With it, you can, for example, use the timer function or generate individual light scenes. If you want to control your light sources via remote control, add a dimmer switch to your Hue products. You can attach it to walls or magnetic surfaces or use it as a convenient remote control. The Philips Hue wall switch module is particularly ingenious. If you install this behind your light switch, you can operate your smart Hue lamps using a wall switch. The advantage: Your lamps and luminaires are always controllable.
How do Philips Hue light bulbs work?
LED lamps from Philips Hue can be controlled either via Bluetooth or via ZigBee. In the first case, you don't need a bridge to use them and can simply operate the bulb via the Hue app on your smartphone or tablet. Bluetooth-enabled light bulbs can be operated with all conventional smart speakers, as long as the system app supports Bluetooth. A separate Smart Hub, i.e. a central control unit, is not required.
Products with Philips Hue Bridge work via ZigBee and require a Smart Hub for operation. The bridge takes over this role here. ZigBee-capable light sources can be integrated into the systems of Amazon, Apple and Google, provided they have a hub.
Which lights are compatible with Philips Hue bulbs?
Philips Hue lamps come with three different bases: E27, E14 and GU10. This means that all existing lights with these sockets can be made smart.
Tip: Make sure that luminaires with GU10 sockets do not have any cover rings on the bulb. Here there could be problems with the fit, because Philips Hue bulbs are slightly longer than conventional bulbs.
How many lumens do Philips Hue lamps emit?
We offer Hue lamps with very different lumens. Low values such as 300 lumens are good for mood lighting, especially if you dim the bulb or reduce its color temperature. Philips Hue lamps with up to 800, 1,100 or even up to 1,600 lumens are recommended for room lighting. However, many Philips Hue products – even models with a high lumen count – are just as suitable for mood lighting or effect lighting thanks to the dimming function and the option to change colors.
