Verpan Spiral
Breathtaking light and a fascinating design
The
Spiral series by Verpan was created by the design icon Verner Panton, who designed this majestic pendant light in 1969.
Verpan Spiral stands for a simply
enticing combination of a lighting and design effect. The light fixtures derive their almost hypnotic appeal from the spiral, cascade-like falling strands of Cellidor – an organic, thermoplastic cellulose ester. This material is not only responsible for the amazing look of the
Verpan Spiral pendant light which slightly changes depending on the perspective. Thanks to the self-polishing effect, the Cellidor elements catch the viewer’s attention since they glitter and sparkle already before being switched on. As soon as it is switched on, the uprising beams of the illuminant create a presentation of light that is unrivalled. The light show even reaches a higher level when a breeze touches the Verpan Spiral pendant light so that the moving spirals cause an additional play of light reflections.
All versions of a Spiral by
Verpan exude a
classy noblesse in perfection. However, the extraordinary effect slightly varies depending on the version you choose – a silver, gold or a multi-coloured version is available. A golden
Verpan Spiral pendant light, for instance, looks a little bit more extravagant and luxurious than the silver version, which is slightly more unobtrusive. The colourful multi-coloured version of the Spiral, on the other hand, reminds us in an elegant and charming way of the Flower Power and the Pop Art movements.
Verpan Spiral: luminaires for use in private and representative areas
A light such as the
Verpan Spiral SP1 is predominantly used in living rooms. Here, this pendant lamp upgrades the room with its refined appearance and provides it with a kind of illumination that is second to none. The various reflections of the light are joined to form a harmonious, uniform ambient light. A small version like the
Verpan Mini pendant light is also a great choice for the bedroom or a larger hall where the guest are welcomed with a Wow! effect. Particularly the models consisting of multiple clusters, for instance, the
Spiral SP3 and the
SP2 are ideally suited for representative areas such as a reception room, a hall, a lobby or an exhibition room.
Similarly to the
Verpan Fun, the individual elements of some Spiral pendant lights are attached to nylon threads, which themselves are fixed to metal rings. The creator of these lights, Verner Panton, is one of the most influential artists of Danish design. We do not only owe to him the creation of the legendary Panton Chair but also the design of light classics such as the Panthella floor lamp for Louis Poulsen or the Flower Pot for the new brand &Tradition.
Panton once said the following on light, colour and material: "Light and colour are closely linked. The colours can make a crucial change in nature, if you switch from daylight to artificial light or just from strong to weak illumination. In addition, colour perception is affected by the material structure. Even if a piece of textile can have the same colour as a shiny enamel plate, then they will act completely different."
Verpan Spiral pendant lights are provided with an E27 socket which can be used for a number of illuminants. It is recommended to use halogen lamps that stand out due to a brilliant colour rendering. It is also conceivable to fit this light with LED retrofit lamps that also supply warm-white light. However, the colour rendering is usually less favourable – by now modern models achieve an Ra value of more than 95, while the ideal value is 100.
As a
sign of authenticity, each
Spiral light is provided with a signature of the designer Verner Panton. Additional information on the material: although Cellidor excels with a high robustness, it also convinces with a warm and soft feel.
